You can play all 18 holes at Hidden Creek Golf Course on Thanksgiving, but get an early tee time. The course will close at 3 p.m. on Nov. 26. If you are too full of Thanksgiving fare to tee off, the municipal course will be open for business, 7 a.m.-6 p.m., on Friday, Nov. 27.

The City’s recycling center and compost site will also be open on Nov. 27, 2 p.m.-6 p.m.

All other City buildings, with the exception of the Burleson Police Department and three Burleson Fire stations, will be closed on Nov. 26 and Nov. 27 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

There will be no trash collection or curbside recycling on Thursday, Nov. 26, however, trash and recyclables will be collected on Nov. 27.

Burleson children will receive a personal phone call from Santa Claus thanks to the North Pole Calling program coordinated by the City of Burleson’s parks and recreation department.north pole calling

Children have to send their parents to the Burleson Community Center or Burleson Public Library to make an appointment with the most famous North Pole resident. Informational fliers about the phone calls from the North Pole are also being distributed through the Burleson Independent School District’s elementary campuses.

Santa’s helpers will help St. Nick coordinate the phone calls, which will be made between 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 14, through Thursday, Dec. 17. These calls are geared toward children from pre-kindergarten through second grade. This is for Burleson residents and BISD students only.

Completed forms must be returned to the Burleson Community Center no later than Wednesday, Dec. 2, so that Santa has time to compile his list. The center is located at 500 Chisenhall Park Lane.

For more information about North Pole Calling, call the City of Burleson’s parks and recreation department at 817-295-8168.

christmasReserve Dec. 5 for
Christmas in Burleson!

Santa and his elves have moved his annual Santa’s Breakfast from the Burleson Community Center to the Senior Activity Center, 216 S.W. Johnson Ave. Saint Nick’s elves will be up early on Dec. 5, flipping pancakes and cooking sausage by 7 a.m. Santa will hear wishes until 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $3 for children/$4 for adults in advance or $5 for children/$7 for adults at the door of the senior center.

The Burleson Rotary Club’s annual lighted Christmas parade steps off from Kerr Middle School at 6 p.m. The theme this year is “I’ll Be Home For Christmas.” This is a lighted parade that is open to floats, cars, horses, fire trucks, and more! All entries must be outfitted with Christmas lights and music is also encouraged. Parade lineup starts at 4 p.m. Parade applications are available at the Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce, Service First Mortgage and Burleson City Hall.

One lucky third grade girl and one lucky third grade boy will earn a seat next to Santa on the parade float, and then will help Mr. Claus flip the switch on the City’s 25-foot Christmas tree at the corner of Johnson Avenue and Ellison Street. The third graders who win this honor will be picked for their artistic talents in a coloring contest that starts this weekend. Pick up forms for coloring at the Burleson Community Center or Burleson Public Library.

The City’s Christmas tree is outfitted with more than 10,000 lights. A fireworks extravaganza show will light the skies immediately after the tree lighting, and then Santa will head to his sleigh to take more Christmas wishes.

For information about the breakfast, coloring contest and tree lighting, call the parks and recreation department, 817-295-8168. For information about the Christmas parade, call Lisa Keese at 817-447-7300.
