According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), most often West Nile Virus is spread by the bite of an infected mosquito. Mosquitoes become infected when they feed on infected birds. Infected mosquitoes can then spread West Nile Virus to humans and other animals. According to the health department, in areas where the virus has been detected, very few mosquitoes in that area actually carry the virus.

According to the transportation code (545.303) a driver must stop or park a vehicle with the right-hand wheels parallel to and within 18 inches of the right-hand curb or edge of the road. If it is a one-way street, drivers must stop or park with the flow of traffic.

The exception to the rule is the City’s annual fireworks show, which is free to the public. The City show is coordinated by Atlas Enterprise, a licensed pyrotechnic.

Thursday night, Burleson City Council members approved an ordinance, on first reading, to increase the residential trash collection rate from $17.84 a month to $19.96. That rate change will go into effect the day following the final reading. The final reading is set for July 10.

Lawn and landscape irrigation, except for hand watering and the use of soaker hoses, is prohibited between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., year round, inside the city limits of Burleson. Violations of City of Burleson Ordinance B-768-07 are subject to fines of up to $500 per offense. Each day that a violation occurs constitutes a separate offense so continuous watering could rack up quite a bill.

According to Ron Cornelison, zoonosis control specialist with the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), the rabies vaccine inventory at the DSHS has dwindled through regular use to unprecedented low levels. DSHS is currently unable to restock the rabies vaccine. DSHS distribution locations will probably be depleted soon.
