November 18, 2009 Construction is almost complete in Irene/Gardens/Gregory neighborhoods (pdf) Good news for those residents, and travelers, in the area of Irene Street, Gardens Boulevard and Gregory Street . . . in less than two months the street construction will be over.
November 18, 2009 Save on your wastewater bill by conserving water (pdf) Cut back on the number of loads of laundry you do and the length of and number of showers you take and you could lower your average wastewater bill for the rest of the year. The less water used during January-March, the lower your residential sewer bill will be year-round.
November 16, 2009 Two major road projects are underway (pdf) The City of Burleson is working on two road construction projects that will make getting from one place to another smoother and quicker. Alsbury Boulevard, between Edgehill Road and Summercrest Boulevard, is being completely reconstructed and Arnold Avenue will be extended from the current dead end to Hwy. 174, across from Elk Drive.

October 19, 2009 The City of Burleson wants to make sure you are counted in the 2010 Census (pdf) All residents of the United States must be counted, as required by the United States Constitution. Your participation, as a citizen, is required by law. A census worker may have been at your door this past spring when the Census was updating address lists. The actual 10-question census form will be mailed to residents, nationwide, in February/March 2010. Census Day is April 1, 2010.

September 25, 2009 City proclaims Oct. 4-10 as Fire Prevention Week in Burleson (pdf) “Stay Fire Smart – Don’t Get Burned” is the theme of Fire Prevention Week 2009. Mayor Ken Shetter presented the proclamation to City Fire Inspector/Investigator David Butler at the Sept. 21 Burleson City Council meeting. The proclamation designates the week of Oct. 4-10 as Fire Prevention Week in Burleson.
September 24, 2009 Grand opening of Fire Station No. 3 (pdf) Mayor Ken Shetter and Fire Chief Gary Wisdom performed the ceremonial uncoupling of the fire hose, then the firefighters, city council members, and city management pushed Engine 3 into the new bay at 245 Lakewood Dr. Wednesday morning.

September 23, 2009 Cell phone use banned in active school zones (pdf) If you don’t have a hands-free device you can’t talk on your cellular telephone while driving through an active school zone in Burleson. This change will go into effect inside the city limits of Burleson as soon as the signs explaining that restriction, are posted.

September 22, 2009 Mosquito control (pdf) Are the mosquitoes bugging you? The City of Burleson does not spray for mosquitoes because spraying only kills the mosquitoes that come into direct contact with the spray. But, the City does help alleviate the problems in other ways.

September 18, 2009 StormReady recognition ceremony is Sept. 21 (pdf) Three meteorologists from the Fort Worth office of the National Weather Service will be at the Burleson City Council meeting to present a StormReady recognition certificate to the City’s emergency management division.
September 18, 2009 39 students awarded Burleson Opportunity Fund scholarships (pdf) On Sept. 8, the Burleson 4A Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and the Burleson City Council ratified a resolution in support of a $60,000 donation from the EDC to the Burleson Opportunity Fund. The money is available through the 4A Sales Tax Fund.
September 17, 2009 Fire Station No. 3 Grand Opening Ceremony (pdf) The Burleson Fire Department will officially open Fire Station #3 with a grand opening ceremony slated for Wednesday, Sept. 23. The festivities will take place, 10 a.m.-noon, at 245 Lakewood Dr. Refreshments will be served.

September 11, 2009 Hours have changed at City Hall (pdf) Effective Thursday, Oct. 1, the hours at Burleson City Hall will change to 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday. The hours have been 8 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday-Thursday and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday.
September 10, 2009 Boo Bash location changes (pdf) Put on your costume, grab a treat bag, and head to Burleson’s Old Town for the second annual Burleson Old Town Boo Bash. The fun, all of it free, will take place Saturday, Oct. 31, 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Last year, the first-time event drew 5,000-7,000 people. Target is back as the major sponsor of the event.

September 2, 2009 Second hearing on proposed tax rate is Sept. 8 (pdf) The proposed tax rate stays the same. The water rate does not change for residential or business customers, except gas well businesses. But, an increase in wastewater rates is proposed for fiscal year 2009/2010.

August 27, 2009 Homecoming Parade route and cleanup (pdf) Would you rather someone throw something at you or hand it to you? For safety reasons, and to aid in the cleanup after the parade, the City of Burleson and the Burleson Independent School District are requesting that those involved in the Sept. 10 Burleson High School homecoming parade hand out candy, not throw it. And, if you are there watching the parade, clean up your own area as you leave the parade route.
August 26, 2009 Don't park, stop, or stand on a public road (pdf) Parents who are trying to pick their child up or drop their child off at a school campus can not park, stop, stand or impede traffic on a public roadway while waiting to enter a school parking lot. If the road is blocked, public safety personnel can not get through when there is an emergency.

These new numbers will not go into effect until late July/early August. July 10, 2009 Texas Hunter Education safety course offered August 8-9 (pdf) The best hunter is a safe hunter so the Burleson Community Center is hosting a two-day Texas Hunter Education safety course Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 8-9. This class is geared toward participants who are at least 9 years old. Children, 9-12 years old, must be accompanied by an adult.

July 9, 2009 Mammography Unit at Community Bank on July 22 (pdf) A Texas Health Hospital mobile mammography unit will be in the Community Bank parking lot Wednesday, July 22. The City of Burleson’s health and wellness committee, Community Bank and Texas Health Hospital are hosting the outreach service.
July 7, 2009 City lowers rate for residential solid waste collection (pdf) The residential rate for solid waste collection is going down. The $16.42 per month rate that went into effect June 1, will be reduced to $16.05 (plus tax) on the City’s August bills.
