March 18, 2010 Celebrate Arbor Day and take home free seedling (pdf) The City of Burleson’s parks and recreation department and the neighborhood services department as well as Keep Burleson Beautiful will host the City’s annual Arbor Day ceremony on Friday, April 23.
March 17, 2010 Residential streets close at Alsbury to expedite Alsbury construction (pdf) One end of three residential streets in Burleson will be closed, starting March 22, to expedite the construction of concrete pavement on the westbound lanes of Alsbury Boulevard.
March 17, 2010 Skunk tests positive for rabies (pdf) A test on a skunk found Friday, March 12, in a dog house on Bluebonnet Court came back positive for rabies on Tuesday.
March 16, 2010 BRiCk corporate rates improved (pdf) Monday night the Burleson City Council members unanimously approved a revision in the corporate membership rates for the Burleson Recreation Center (BRiCk), which will host a soft opening in May and a grand opening June 5.
March 15, 2010 Good Friday closings (pdf) All City facilities – with the exception of Hidden Creek Golf Course, the police department and the fire stations - will be closed Friday, April 2, in observance of Good Friday. Trash and curbside recycling will be picked up on Good Friday.
March 15, 2010 Mayor Pro Tem is appointed to National League of Cities Small Cities Council (pdf) Burleson Mayor Pro Tem Stuart Gillaspie has been appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) Small Cities Council (SCC) steering committee for 2010. Gillaspie is the only committee member representing Texas.
March 10, 2010 March 15 is cut-off for write-in candidates to file (pdf) At 5 p.m. on March 8, there were five candidates and one contested race on the May 8, 2010 ballot. That could change by 5 p.m. on Monday, March 15, which is the deadline for residents to file as write-candidates through the city secretary’s office at Burleson City Hall. (en Español)

March 9, 2010 Interurban Express Motor #330 comes home (pdf) Interurban Express Motor #330 has returned to Old Town Burleson. On March 6, Basden Steel, with the assistance of City park maintenance workers, moved the 18,000-pound circa 1902 refurbished trolley car from the City’s old service center on Main to 124 W. Ellison, next to the Burleson Visitors Center and city hall.
March 4, 2010 Police Department honors its own (pdf) The Burleson Police Department honored its own with a banquet Feb. 27.
March 4, 2010 Police Department Officer of the Year (pdf) Burleson Police Officer Craig Bastible keeps achieving. He won Rookie of the Year honors for 2007, then his peers awarded him Officer of the Year honors for 2009.
March 4, 2010 Police Department Supervisor of the Year (pdf) Sgt. Brian O'Heren, 2009 Supervisor of the Year for the Burleson Police Department, “continues to forge a positive relationship with the citizens and positive perception of the Burleson Police Department.."
March 4, 2010 Police Department Rookie of the Year (pdf) The professionalism of Burleson Police officers is what drew Chaz Garrett to apply for a job with the department. Saturday, his professionalism was recognized as his peers selected him as the department’s Rookie of the Year for 2009.
March 4, 2010 Police Department Civilian Employee of the Year (pdf) This telecommunication operator’s easy-going attitude and ability to remain calm and collected when the stress levels rise earned Phil Lewis the Burleson Police Department’s Civilian Employee of the Year award for 2009.

February 18, 2010 Burleson Police Department achieves seventh meritorious accreditation award (pdf) The Burleson Police Department was recognized for its professionalism and high standards Monday when Arlington Police Chief Theron Bowman, a commissioner with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), presented Police Chief Tom Cowan with the department’s seventh accreditation award.
February 17, 2010 Reward offered for information on trio of arsons at Burleson Feed Mill (pdf) Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for tips leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect(s) involved in three possible arsons at the Burleson Feed Mill in October 2009. An additional reward of $2,500 is also being offered.

Candidate packets for seats 2, 4, 6, and mayor are available through the City Secretary’s office at Burleson City Hall, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., through March 8. January 29, 2010 Police say no evidence of attempted child abductions or kidnappings (pdf) The Burleson Police Department, with the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) where requested, has investigated the four incidents that were initially reported to police as attempted child abductions/attempted kidnappings on Jan. 9, Jan. 11 (two incidents) and Jan. 25. These incidents have received substantial media attention and have, understandably, raised the concern of many within the Burleson community.
