August 24, 2010 BRiCk adds two free fitness classes on Sunday! (pdf) The BRiCk has expanded its free video-based class schedule to include two afternoon classes – Power Paced Pilates and Insanity: Cardio Power and Resistance – on Sunday, Sept. 5!
August 24, 2010 BRiCk hours change effective Sept. 7 (pdf) The last day of the season for the outdoor pool at the Burleson Recreation Center (the BRiCk) is Monday, Sept. 6. Labor Day also marks the end of the peak season for the BRiCk. This reduction in hours will allow BRiCk staff to maintain the quality of the center more effectively during peak summer operational hours.
August 24, 2010 Drink, Drive, Go to Jail (pdf) If you are celebrating the Labor Day holiday between now and Sept. 7, do it at home if drinking alcohol is part of the plans.
August 19, 2010 Free fitness classes at the BRiCk for Aug. 23-28 (pdf) The staff at the Burleson Recreation Center (the BRiCk) has added some new free video-based courses (the BRiCk supplies the workout room, video, and projector screen) to next week’s schedule. Check out Low Impact, High Intensity Step Class on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays and 3D Balance Pilates on Tuesdays and Thursdays. And you can still catch “the Insanity” and work in some P90X to pump up your workout volume. Even if you are not a BRiCk member, you can participate in the free classes by purchasing a daily pass. August 16, 2010 Labor Day is the last day of the season for the BRiCk's outdoor pool (pdf) With students returning to school next week, the outdoor pool at the Burleson Recreation Center (the BRiCk) is on reduced hours until the pool closes for the season on Sept. 7, the day after Labor Day.

Burleson City Council members voted unanimously Monday to a $35,000 contract with author James L. Haley to write a City of Burleson Centennial History book.

Officer Jack Goleman is a 23-year veteran of the Burleson Police Department. He served as a patrol officer and trained new recruits before becoming the City's, and the Burleson Independent School District’s, first school resource officer 17 years ago.

June 23, 2010 Burleson Citizens On Patrol program, and coordinator, win top awards (pdf) The Burleson Police Department’s Citizens on Patrol program and coordinator Sgt. Diron Hill were honored Friday night with two top awards from the Texas Citizens on Patrol Association (TCOPA) at a banquet in Granbury. The Citizens on Patrol (COPs) program won the award for the Small (less than 100,000 population) Citizens on Patrol Association of the Year. Hill won Citizens on Patrol Coordinator of the Year.

June 18, 2010 Police, railroad combine forces for railroad crossing enforcement detail (pdf) The Burleson Police Department’s traffic unit and Union Pacific Railroad joined forces again Wednesday for a railroad crossing enforcement detail. Seven drivers, including one driving a commercial vehicle, received citations for disregarding the railroad crossing lights and arms at the Alsbury Boulevard crossing. Citations carry a fine of approximately $176 in Burleson.
June 15, 2010 Number of Burleson residents keeps growing (pdf) According to the 2010 population estimates from the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG), Burleson now boasts a population of 35,050 residents. That’s up just over 2 percent from the 2009 estimate of 34,350.

June 7, 2010 No fireworks inside the city limits (pdf) The storage, use, possession or sale of fireworks is prohibited inside the city and within 5,000 feet of the corporate limits of the City of Burleson. The exception to the rule is the City’s Fourth of July fireworks show, which is free to the public. That show is slated for approximately 9 p.m. on Sunday, July 4, at the Hidden Creek Sports Complex on I-35W. A licensed pyrotechnician coordinates the fireworks.

May 18, 2010 Sign up for memberships and take a tour at the BRiCk (pdf) The contractors are putting the finishing touches on the inside of the Burleson Recreation Center (the BRiCk), so this week, through Friday, May 21, the center’s hours are 6 a.m.-7 p.m. Residents, and non-residents, can sign up for memberships and tour the facility, but the center will not be open for workouts. The center will be closed on Saturday and Sunday.

Claude Scally tells his fellow fire fighters at the Burleson Fire Department. Scally’s mentorship as well as his wealth of knowledge about the emergency medical system and apparatus earned him a nomination and the award for 2009 Fire Officer of the Year.

April 29, 2010 Rabies confirmed in skunk on Royal Oak (pdf) A test on another skunk in Burleson has returned positive for rabies. Two dogs killed a skunk on Sunday, April 25, in the 800 block of Royal Oak, which is located in a subdivision east of I-35W in Burleson. Both dogs involved in this incident are current on their rabies shots. The dogs received a rabies booster shot the same day as the incident.
