The following benefits are among those available to full time, regular city employees:
Health Insurance - The City provides medical, dental and life insurance for employees.
Retirement - The City matches an employee's contribution of 7% to the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) with a contribution of 14%. The retirement program contributions begin upon date of hire. Employees vest in the retirement system after five years of employment and are eligible for retirement after 20 years. (City employees also participate in social security.)
Sick Leave - Sick leave is accrued on the basis of four hours per pay period (104 hours per year).
Vacation - Employees accrue two weeks (80 hours) of paid vacation each year of the first five years.
Longevity Pay - Employees become eligible for longevity pay after five years of service. Sworn officers of the police and fire departments receive longevity pay as required by state law.
Credit Union - Membership through payroll deduction is available through the Educational Employees Credit Union (EECU).
Holidays - Each employee is paid for ten holidays per year.
Deferred Compensation - A Deferred Compensation (457) plan is administered through the ICMA Retirement Corporation. The City offers payroll deduction and the employee chooses the amount of investment and investment choices.
Employee Assistance Program - Each employee has access to employee assistance for various counseling services in a strictly confidential manner.
Education Enhancement Program - All regular full time employees are eligible to participate in the program after one year of employment, provided that funds are available.
Flexible Benefit Plan - Dependent health insurance premiums can be deducted from an employee's pre-taxed income. Employees may also participate in a flexible spending account by setting aside pre-tax income to pay for unreimbursed health expenses and dependent child care.
