The salary for these officers is funded jointly by the City of Burleson and the Burleson ISD. Other costs associated with this program are also shared by the two agencies and other funding comes from donations from local businesses and civic organizations. A local car dealership furnishes the use of a new vehicle that is specially marked with the D.A.R.E. logo. This creates a positive public image of the strong support for this program. |
The D.A.R.E. program was one of the first community programs started here and has been one of the most valuable assets in police- community relations. The primary purpose of this program is to teach kids about the dangers of drugs, peer pressure, and to build self esteem. It was the first program to put an officer in the school environment and has had a positive impact in bridging the gap between police and our youth, as well as with our school teachers and officials.
