Telecommunications Operator Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED Type 40 wpm Must obtain Basic Telecommunicator Certification within one year and TCIC/NCIC certification within six months from date of hire Must have basic knowledge of computers No felony convictions Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required skills and abilities is qualifying

Skill and ability to:

Interpret rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Prepare clear, concise and understandable written documents. Coordinate multiple events and emergency responses. Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously. Detail oriented. Read, write, spell, and speak in a clear and concise manner. Make sound decisions using all available information. Read and interpret written instructions, city and county maps. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other agency personnel and the public. Accomplish tasks in a controlled and competent manner while working under stress. Effectively operate the public safety computer systems, teletype, radio dispatch consoles, telephones and other associated equipment. Normal hearing, vision correctable to 20/20 and have normal color vision. Must be willing to work varied shifts, holidays, nights and weekend work required.

Preferred qualifications:

• Prior Public Safety dispatching experience.
• Bilingual skills strongly desired.
• Some college preferred.
