Two earn Class A water treatment licenses

Hutchison and Hallack earn Class A water licenses

These City of Burleson employees are Class A!

Jay Hutchison, public works water/wastewater superintendent (left), and Bill Hallack, water/wastewater division water production specialist, recently achieved the requirements needed for a Class A water treatment license.

“This is a difficult test that requires a detailed application process to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to confirm education, experience, knowledge, and time in the field,” David Smyth, assistant director of public works for the City of Burleson, said.

To earn a Class A water treatment license, an employee must have eight years of verifiable related experience and 160 hours of training credit, including management, calculations, and laboratory courses along with various technical courses. Hutchison and Hallack had to set aside eight hours to take the 100-question test. The license is renewed every three years. Hutchison and Hallack will have to take 30 hours of training within that timeframe to renew the license.

“This represents a level of dedication and commitment by Jay and Bill that the City of Burleson will benefit from for many years to come,” Smyth said.

Hallack was hired by the City in March 1998. In July 1998 he was promoted to utility worker II, then three months later in October he was promoted to utility crew leader. In October 2006 Hallack stepped up to water production specialist. He achieved his Class C water license in February 2002, Class II wastewater license in November 2002, Class III wastewater license in November 2005, and Class A water license in November 2007.
