Solid Waste
and
Recycling

The Solid Waste Division provides for the weekly collection of household garbage.

Disposable, weatherproof garbage bags are required for pickup. Bags cannot be placed in containers. It is a violation of city ordinances to place garbage on the curb more than 12 hours in advance of the regular collection day. The Utility Customer Service Department will provide information on the collection days for your residence or you can view the Garbage Collection Days map. (PDF format)

Curbside Recycling

Curbside recycling service is now available to Burleson residents. Community Waste Disposal will be collecting recyclable items one day each week (excluding holidays). Go to the Curbside Recycling page to read more about this service.

Special Trash Collection

Special Trash Collection is available once per month to all residents. Special collections will be done according to the following solid waste collection zones:

Zone 1            first full week of the month
Zone 2            second week of the month
Zone 3            third week of the month
Zone 4            fourth week of the month

Residents need to place their special collection item at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on the Monday of their zone collection week. Discarded items such as furniture and other oversized items are collected.

Items that will not be collected are: automotive parts, roofing shingles, concrete, brick, rock, dirt, grass, leaves, paint, oil or other hazardous materials, and appliances that have not had the refrigerant removed. There is no additional charge for this service.

Residents will no longer need to call the city to request a special pickup. If any of the items you placed on the curb by 7:00 AM on Monday have not been picked up by Friday, please call 817-447-5410 ext 0 and let us know. You may also make an online web request to report a missed special trash pickup through the Public Works Response Center.

Brush and Yard Waste Collection Services

The City of Burleson’s public works department will collect yard waste and brush on a monthly basis, starting the first full week of May, 2008.

Residents wishing to take advantage of these opportunities must follow the guidelines below:

  • Set out yard waste (leaves & grass clippings) in approved paper lawn waste bags.
  • Brush and yard waste should be at the curb by 7 a.m. on Monday of the collection week.
  • DO NOT PLACE BAGS AT THE CURB BEFORE THE WEEKEND PRIOR TO THE SCHEDULED PICKUP.
  • Brush needs to be cut into 6 ft. lengths or smaller and neatly stacked at the curb.

Yard waste and brush collection dates will be based on your zone. See the zone map.

Zone 1 first full week of the month
Zone 2 second week of the month
Zone 3 third week of the month
Zone 4 fourth week of the month

Brush and yard waste left at the curb on Monday will be picked up by the end of the work day on Friday of that collection week.

The City's solid waste department will collect all bags of yard waste and brush by driving down each city street ONE time during each of these collection weeks. Crews will haul all brush and bagged yard waste to the mulching site at the Compost Center; then provide the resulting mulch to residents for FREE.

Residents can find approved paper lawn waste bags at their local grocery store and home and garden centers.

For more information about the yard waste collection program call 817-447-5410 ext. 279.

Citizens are encouraged to follow the Don't Bag It Lawn Care and Leaf Management Plans in order to save time, energy and money. Printed materials outlining these plans may be obtained at City Hall or at the Municipal Service Center.

Compost/Mulch Center

The City's Compost/Mulch Center, located at 620 Memorial Drive, next to Fire Station # 2, is open on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. During operating hours, Burleson residents (proof of residency is required) may take brush, leaves and grass clippings to the site in approved paper lawn waste sacks. Cans, boxes, plastic bags, etc, must be emptied and disposed of by the resident. Free mulch is also available for Burleson residents, upon request, on those days.

The Recycling Center, located at 124 SW Haskew St., is a drop-off collection site for all of the items currently recycled in the curbside recycling program. See the curbside recycling FAQ for a list of recyclable items. The center is open to the public on Tuesdays and Fridays from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Hazardous Material Disposal for items such as paint, motor oil and filters and other chemicals is made available from a number of local businesses. Please contact the Burleson Service Center, 1675 John Jones Drive (817-447-5410), for more information.

The Transfer StationTransfer Station

The City of Burleson Transfer Station, located at 430 N. Burleson Blvd., is the place where garbage collected from residences and business is dumped and compacted into transport trucks for hauling to the landfill.

A Site Operating Plan (SOP) addressing recent changes in Section 330 of the Texas Administrative Code (330 TAC) is required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). It outlines how the operations are monitored and managed for the Transfer Station. It is a requirement of the existing permit to meet the new 330 TAC changes and was prompted by a call for SOP's by the TCEQ.

Household Hazardous Waste Collections Events are held twice a year in the City of Burleson. The event is only available for residents of the City of Burleson and only material from residences can be accepted. Participants should bring their water / solid waste bill as proof of residency.

Residents may take their household hazardous waste to the Environmental Collection Center in Fort Worth at any time throughout the year.

For more information about what materials the collection facility can accept or the center’s hours of operation, contact Fort Worth's Environmental Collection Center at 817-871-5257or click on this link: http://www.fortworthgov.org/DEM/eccpg.htm.
