Yard Waste Collection Program

It’s that time of year again! Yard waste collection season is upon us. The City of Burleson has specific dates throughout the year when the solid waste division collects yard waste at the curb, so long as it is set out in approved paper lawn waste bags (available at your local retailers). The following yard waste collection dates have been scheduled:

  • March 3-7, 2008
  • April 7-11, 2008

City crews will travel down each street ONE time during each designated yard waste collection Week (Monday – Friday) and collect all of the bags for mulching at our Compost Center. Free mulch is available for all Burleson residents at our Compost Center at 620 Memorial Drive (off of East Renfro) and the center is open Tuesdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

To ensure that your yard waste is picked up during these special collections, set out your material according to these guidelines.

  • Collect yard waste in approved paper lawn waste bags, which are available at most home improvement or hardware stores.
  • Set bags at the curb by 7:30 a.m. on Monday of the designated collection week. The bags will be picked up sometime during the collection week.
  • DO NOT overfill the bags. They must be closed for collection. So leave room at the top and then roll the tops of the bags down like lunch sacks when you set them out.

It is important for bags to be set out on the Monday of each collection week because there will be no way to provide advance notice as to the specific date on which bags on your street will be collected. RESIDENTS WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR DISPOSING OF ANY BAGS REMAINING AFTER THE SCHEDULED 5 DAYS OF SPECIAL COLLECTION FOR EACH WEEK. Those bags may be taken to the Compost Center.

REMEMBER , the City DOES NOT collect yard waste as part of daily trash collections. Special yard waste collection services are only provided during these designated week-long events. In fact, everyone is strongly encouraged to mulch yard trimmings and compost leaves and other yard waste to be reused in yards and flower beds. The City adopted the Don’t Bag It program in March 2003. Go to the solid waste division’s web page for information on how to implement this program around your yard. It is a great way to add natural nutrients to the soil and help keep organics from filling local landfills. The more we can reduce, reuse, and recycle, the longer we can extend the life of the local landfills.
