According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, last year, nearly 5 million people were bitten by dogs in the United States. May 20-26 is National Dog Bite Prevention Week. The goal is to educate people on how to avoid dog bites.
Students who are entering the fifth grade in the fall of 2012 are invited to apply for a spot in the Burleson Fire Department’s Junior Fire Academy. Class is June 4 -7, 8 a.m.-noon. The academy is limited to 12.

The Tarrant Regional Water District has lifted the Stage 1 Water Restrictions, effective Friday, May 4. Due to drought conditions, the restrictions were enacted on Aug. 29, 2011, for all of the TRWD’s direct customers and indirect customers.

Effective March 6, 2012, the City's compost site will only accept brush, tree limbs and yard waste. Residents will no longer be able to drop off other wood or wood by-products such as old lumber, desks, plywood, fencing etc., for grinding.
Hidden Creek will close the back nine holes Jan. 9. The front nine holes are slated to close in mid-February. All 18 holes should reopen in the fall of 2012.
