The city was recently awarded a Department of Transportation grant for the development of the Oak Valley Trail System, which will stretch from the Oak Valley neighborhood under I-35 and end in Burleson Old Town Design for the trail is underway and construction should begin in the Fall of 2005. This is only the first segment of what we envision to encircle the entire town.
How are my parks built, maintained and paid for?
The majority of funding for park construction and maintenance is from what we call the general fund. This fund is a mixture of many types of fees collected by the city including Ad Valorem. An additional source of funding is contributed by land developers in the form of a park development fund. Land for the acquisition of parks is either acquired from a subdivision development as it is designed or it is purchased outright in a location that the city feels is lacking in park supply.
Who can I call if I have a suggestion or a complaint?
The Director of Parks is Peter Krause and he can be reached at 817-295-8168, or by email at pkrause@burlesontx.com.
