What is the difference between trash and garbage?

Garbage means solid waste that consisting of animal and vegetable waste materials from the handling, preparation, cooking, or consumption of food, including waste materials from markets, storage facilities, and the handling and sale of produce and other food products.

Trash mean solid waste (excluding ashes), consisting of both combustible and noncombustible waste materials. Combustible trash includes paper, rags, cartons, wood, wood shavings, furniture, rubber, plastics, and brush; noncombustible trash includes glass, crockery, tin cans, aluminum cans, metal and similar materials that will not burn at ordinary incinerator temperatures. The term does not include grass clippings or leaves

What are my garbage collection days?

It depends on your address. The Utility Billing Department will provide information on the collection days for your residence. You can also click the link view the Garbage Collection Map in PDF format which requires Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Why did they leave my garbage, leaves, or limbs behind?

All garbage must be set out to the curb by 7:00 a.m. on your collection day. If the garbage is out on time and not collected, a yellow tag should be placed on it advising of the reason for not being collected. If there is no tag, contact the Public Works Department at 817-447-5410 and advise the Administrative Technician of the situation. They will direct the call to the appropriate staff to determine why the garbage was not collected or tagged.

Residents may take their leaves, brush, yard waste and limbs to the City's' grinder site next to Fire Station # 2 on Memorial Plaza or may set them out for once a month collection by the city. Please see the zone map for your collection week. Yard waste and leaves must be bagged in approved paper leaf bags readily available at local retailers and left at the site, bag and all. If the yard waste or leaves is in plastic bags, the resident is responsible for dumping the contents on site and removing the plastic bags from the premises.

Limbs cut to 6 foot lengths or shorter are collected on a montly basis. There is no need to call in for a limbs pick up because the brush collection truck crews survey the city by zones and collect limbs as they are found. Additionally, the solid waste crews provide a listing of limbs/brush locations for collection by the brush truck operator. Smaller limb piles may be collected by the solid waste crews when they complete their assigned solid waste collection routes; however, larger piles must be collected by the brush truck operator. Storm debris and heavy trimming associated with the spring time often results in delays of collection up to 30 days.

I called in for special pickup. Why didn't they come today/this week?

Special Trash Collection (Residential Only)

It is no longer necessary to call the city for a special trash pickup.Large amounts of trash, such as fencing, appliances that do not use refrigerant, furniture and junk, are picked up as collection volumes allow. Normally this service is provided Monday through Friday of your collection week, depending on which zone you reside. See the zone map. Items that cannot be collected are: roofing shingles, concrete, brick, rock, dirt, paint, oil or other hazardous chemicals, appliances using refrigerant, building materials resulting from remodeling and automotive parts.

Please separate the limbs/wood from yard waste (leaves/grass) and from special trash (household items) you set to the curb.

It is the Solid Waste Divisions' desire to collect all specials by Wednesdays of every week; however, high volumes of special requests may result in pick ups on Thursday or Friday of the same week.

Does the City credit bills if our garbage isn't picked up?

No. The Solid Waste Fee is not based on frequency of collection. If the trash is set out by 7:00 a.m. and is missed, the resident may call in to 817-447-5410 and report the missed garbage pickup and the issue will be addressed.

If our pickup day is a holiday, will garbage be picked up the next day?

No, it will be picked up on the next scheduled pickup day.

What are the garbage collection holidays?

New Years Day, Martin Luther King Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving (Thursday and Friday), and Christmas (Dec. 25 and 26). Generally speaking if the holiday falls on a Saturday, the previous Friday is the scheduled holiday and if it falls on a Sunday, the following Monday would be the official holiday; however, there are exceptions to this rule.

What is the schedule for garbage collection?

Garbage collection is scheduled for Monday/Thursday, and Tuesday/Friday.

How do I begin receiving garbage collection service?
