In recent years, advances in drilling technology have made it possible for energy companies to extract large amounts of natural gas from the Barnett Shale.
A pad generally 300 feet by 300 feet will be prepared and a drilling rig will move onto the location. The drilling rig will be on site for approximately 20-30 days actually “drilling” the well and running pipe into the open hole. After the well is drilled the drilling rig will move off. The rig move and drilling is a 24 hour operation and is probably the noisiest part of the operation. Shortly thereafter, well “completion” will begin and a smaller portable rig will move onto the location.
After completion operations, surface equipment will be installed along with appropriate fencing and gates. From this point there will be minimal activity on the location. Occasionally a small rig will be brought to the location for remedial work.
The City chooses not to spray for mosquitoes because:
1. Spraying chemicals in the streets will not rid the city of mosquitoes. The spray is very localized and only is effective for a few minutes. Spraying only kills adult mosquitoes that are active while the spray is airborne.
2. The chemical sprays have no residual effects and do nothing to kill mosquito larva thriving in stagnant water. 3. Spraying for mosquitoes may give residents a false sense of security. The risk of someone being infected with West Nile could increase if people decide not to use insect repellant before working or playing outdoors. 4. Adding harmful chemicals to the environment can have unwanted secondary effects to both air and water. 5. Many Burleson residents living with respiratory problems such as asthma would be in danger of an onset of symptoms. The potential inhalation hazard to the general population does not seem worth the risk of killing a few mosquitoes.
Until the pros of spraying outweigh the cons, the City will continue to promote the importance of the residents' role in preventing mosquitoes at their source – stagnant water – and in protecting themselves from mosquitoes by wearing appropriate clothing and insect repellant outdoors.

If you don’t want to go the compost/mulch/recycling center, set the Christmas tree at the curb along with bulk trash, brush, limbs and yard waste during your zone collection week. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, annually nearly 2,000,000 crashes occur in intersections. In 2005, red light running resulted in 800 fatalities and over 165,000 injuries.
Statistics have shown that an automated red light camera program will reduce the number of red light crashes and injuries associated with such crashes. The purpose of this program is to increase traffic safety in Burleson. The goal of the program is to reduce red light running violations, red light crashes, and red light injury crashes without impacting City funds. This is a public safety program.
Trash mean solid waste (excluding ashes), consisting of both combustible and noncombustible waste materials. Combustible trash includes paper, rags, cartons, wood, wood shavings, furniture, rubber, plastics, and brush; noncombustible trash includes glass, crockery, tin cans, aluminum cans, metal and similar materials that will not burn at ordinary incinerator temperatures. The term does not include grass clippings or leaves
Residents may take their leaves, brush, yard waste and limbs to the Compost Center behind Fire Station # 2 on Memorial Plaza or may set them out for once a month collection by the city. Please see the zone map for your collection week. Yard waste and leaves must be bagged in approved paper lawn bags readily available at local retailers and left at the site, bag and all. If the yard waste or leaves is in plastic bags, the resident is responsible for dumping the contents on site and removing the plastic bags from the premises.
Limbs cut to 6 foot lengths or shorter are collected on a montly basis. There is no need to call in for a limbs pick up because the brush collection truck crews survey the city by zones and collect limbs as they are found. Solid waste crews will provide a list of limbs/brush locations for collection by the brush truck operator. Smaller limb piles may be collected by the solid waste crews when they complete their regular routes; however, larger piles must be collected by the brush truck operator. Storm debris and heavy trimming associated with the spring time can sometimes results in delays of collection up to 30 days.
Please have you items out at the curb by 7:00 AM the Monday of your weeks pick up. The crews will work through Friday clearing your zone of of Special Pick Up items.
Second, we recommend you do a dye test on your toilets. Put some food coloring in the tank of the toilet, don't flush it, go back in about 30 minutes or so. If any of the colored water from the tank is in the bowl of the toilet, your toilet is leaking. This is a major water waster because a lot of times people don't realize the toilet is leaking because the water isn't going in the floor.
Third, if you have an irrigation system, check the settings. Customers have said that they have had more than one program on at the same time and didn't realize it until they checked their programs.
