BTX Home Improvement Rebate Program
Program Details
The BTX Home Improvement Program was created to assist Burleson homeowners with the financial burden of caring for older homes in the City.Program Goals
- Encourage reinvestment in residential neighborhoods
- Positively affect the value of the City's housing stock
- Lower the financial hurdle for property owners to make significant improvements to their homes
- Quality housing stock to encourage relocation of businesses
- Demonstrate strong commitment by the City to reinvest in mature residential neighborhoods.
Program Requirements
- Single family houses, duplexes, townhomes, and condominiums within Burleson city limits
- Houses 25 years or older
- Owner-occupied at the time of application
- Current on all state, federal, and local taxes at the time of application
- The County Appraisal District appraised total value of the home must be less than or equal to 70% of the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) single-family mortgage limit the county for the current year the application is made
Application Requirements and Process
- Application must be made through the Neighborhood Services Department prior to any work commencing on the project
- If the application is approved, the applicant must sign an incentive contract
- Inspection of proposed project by City staff
- Upon execution of incentives contract, applicant must pay all taxes owed on the home for the term of the contract
- If applicant meets all program requirements, rebate payment will be issued in accordance with terms of incentive contract
Eligible Improvements
- Both interior and exterior improvements qualify with exceptions noted on the list of Ineligible Improvements below
- Expenditures on the property must total 10% or more of CAD value of property.
- For example, a $150.000 property must have a minimum investment of $15,000 to qualify; a $250,000 property must have a minimum investment of $20,000 to qualify
- Improvements must result in livable unit
- Repairs to individual condominium units not covered by property owner association
- Tree replacement is eligible only per city approved trees
Ineligible Improvements
- New pools, hot tubs, spas and water features
- Any landscaping (with exception of tree replacement)
- Repair or replacement of sprinkler systems
- Detached accessory structures
- Garage enclosure and carports
- Exterior improvements or items covered by homeowners association for condominium units
- $5,000 limit per property per 12 months (from the date of the Notice to Proceed letter)
- 25% rebate on exterior improvements
- 10% rebate on interior improvements
- Phased reimbursement on case-by-case basis, depending on applicant's request
