Blow bubbles, submerging head in a rhythmic pattern (bobbing)
Open eyes underwater, pick up a submerged object in shallow water
Float on front and back
Perform front and back glide
Change direction of travel paddling on front or back
Roll over from front to back, back to front
Tread water using arm and leg motions (chest-deep water)
Swim on front, back, and side using combined arm and leg actions
Move in the water while wearing a life jacket
Exit Skills Assessment
Child must be able to step from the side into chest-deep water, move into a front float for 5 seconds, roll to the back, float for 5 seconds, then return to a vertical position. Then child must move into a back float for 5 seconds, roll to front and recover to a vertical position. Last, the child must be able to push off and swim using combined arm and leg actions on front for 5 body lengths, roll to back, float for 15 seconds, roll to the front, then continue swimming for 5 body lengths to move on to Level 3.
All sessions include four 55-minute classes on consecutive Saturdays.
