Fire to host community open house

BuFire Open House Imagerleson Fire Department hosts an Open House for the community from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 25. The free fun is at Fire Station 1, 828 S.W. Alsbury Blvd.

The fun will include an air ambulance, MedStar ground ambulance and tours of the fire trucks. There will be vendors there with tips on how to keep your family safe and lots of activities that will promote a healthy, active lifestyle. Kids are encouraged to bring their bikes and learn about bike safety. There will have a safety presentation and an educational bike ride during the event. A limited supply of bike helmets will be available for children who do not have a helmet.

Participants can also step into the fire safety trailer to see what can happen if something is left unattended on the stove, and how quickly smoke can fill a room.

You won’t leave this open house hungry. There will be free hot dogs for everyone who attends.

The Burleson Fire Department, which now includes three stations, 45 career firefighters, and serves a population of more than 40,000 people, started out as an all-volunteer fire department in 1925.The history of the fire department, and the firefighters, will be on display March 25.

Today’s department includes emergency management, emergency medical services, fire suppression and special operations – confined space rescue, hazardous materials, swift water rescue and urban search and rescue.
