Award-winning Burleson Works Program heads into second year

The Burleson Works, a program of the Burleson Opportunity Fund, is now taking scholarship applications. This one-of-a-kind program helps job seekers get the training they need to find a new career. Applicants must be at least a graduating high school senior to apply, but there are no other restrictions. The job opportunities range from welder, firefighter, culinary intern, plumber apprenticeship and many more. Scholarship applications are due Feb. 28.

A full list of participating businesses and the scholarship application can be viewed on the Burleson Works website. If you would like more information about the program or would like to visit with companies who are currently hiring, Burleson Works will host a job expo from 2 – 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7 at the Burleson Recreation Center, 550 NW Summercrest Blvd. Job seekers are encouraged to bring their resume and can attend the event for free.

Local companies that will be present at the Expo include: Burleson EDC, Texas State Technical College, Hill College, Tarrant County College, Tarleton State University, Wagner Smith Equipment, Golden State Foods, Hard 8 BBQ, KWS Manufacturing, Hayes & Stolz, Basden Steel, McLane Classic Foods, Burleson Electric, DeVault Plumbing, United Cooperative Services, Burleson Fire Department, LKQ, F-Wave, Texas Workforce Commission and many others.

Burleson Economic Development team began the program in 2017 to assist both new businesses that are locating to Burleson and the community’s already vibrant industrial base attract a skilled workforce.

The program survey’s Burleson businesses and determine what positions will be vacant in the upcoming 12-to-24 months. Scholarships will be provided to applicants based on the specific needs of the businesses. Local companies will have an opportunity to interview the applicants before the scholarship is awarded. If selected, the applicant will begin training through one of the program’s educational partners.

Educational partners include Hill College, Tarrant County College, Texas State Technical College and the University of Texas at Arlington. Once the courses are complete, the scholarship recipient will know exactly where they will be employed, at a company right here in Burleson.
