Bryan Langley was unanimously appointed as the City of Burleson’s next city manager at the regularly scheduled March 4, 2019, City Council meeting.
“I am excited to welcome Bryan to the City of Burleson,” said Mayor Ken Shetter. “He has a wealth of experience that positions him well to lead our talented team of city staff members. Through the hiring process, he exhibited an outstanding command of city government and the issues facing Burleson. Bryan is going to be a great fit and I know the community will quickly see why the City Council has such confidence in him.”
Langley currently serves as the deputy city manager and chief operating officer in Denton. In this capacity, he oversees a variety of functions including Public Affairs, Finance, Technology Services (IT), Airport, Administrative Services, Municipal Court, Economic Development, Fleet Services, Library, Parks & Recreation and Customer Service.
“I am truly honored and humbled to be selected by the City Council to lead this organization,” said Langley. “I am excited to be a part of the Burleson team, and I look forward to working with the Mayor, Council, and our talented staff to address the needs of this community.”
Burleson is a council-manager form of government which means that the city manager reports directly to City Council but all other city staff, except for the city secretary, city attorney and municipal judge, report to the city manager. The city manager is responsible for day-to-day operations whereas the city council sets the vision and policy for the city.
Langley was appointed deputy city manager for the City of Denton in 2017. Before that, he served as Denton’s assistant city manager and chief financial officer, a position he was appointed to in 2012 after serving as the City of Denton’s director of finance from 2007 to 2012. Before his tenure in Denton, he served as the assistant director, financial and strategic services for the Town of Addison from 2000 to 2007. He started his municipal career with the City of Dallas in 1996 as a budget analyst and progressed to senior budget analyst in 1998 and budget manager in 1999.
Langley earned both a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration from the University of North Texas. In addition, he holds a Master of Science in Accounting and Information Management from the University of Texas at Dallas.
Langley is a member of the Texas Municipal League, Government Finance Officers Association, Government Finance Officers Association of Texas, Texas Public Power Association, Texas City Management Association and the International City Management Association (ICMA).
Langley’s start date with the City of Burleson is scheduled for April 1.
Dale Cheatham who is currently serving as Burleson’s city manager, a position he has held since 2012, is retiring after 30 years in municipal government.
