COVID-19 Vaccine Update for Burleson

News Flash Item for Website

The City has received several questions about the COVID-19 vaccine. As many of you are aware, new vaccine shipments are arriving in Texas each week. Understandably, many people would like to know who is eligible to take the vaccine, where vaccines are available, and how a person that meets the stated requirements can receive a vaccine. Our goal is to provide accurate information and give an update on the efforts the City of Burleson Public Health is taking to help facilitate the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines.

Burleson Public Health has applied to the State of Texas to be a provider of COVID-19 vaccines. We are currently waiting for approval from the State to begin distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine for people that desire to receive it. Due to limited vaccine availability, the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) has prioritized the first groups to receive the vaccine as follows:

1. Healthcare workers
2. Residents of long-term care facilities
3. People over the age of 65
4. People 16 or older with conditions that put them at a greater risk of severe disease or death from COVID-19

Once approved by the State to distribute the vaccine, Burleson Public Health will focus on providing vaccines to the groups listed above with the vaccine doses we receive from the State. Burleson Public Health will keep the community regularly informed regarding its vaccination efforts and how people in the priority groups can receive a vaccine.

In the meantime, the Texas DSHS has posted information and resources on its COVID-19 Vaccine Information Website:

To find a vaccine provider, go to the DSHS website provided above and scroll to "What do I need to do now?" and click on vaccine provider locations. Each location is marked with a colored dot. Click on the dot to view the name, address and phone number of the provider. Most providers are requiring scheduled appointments and are not accepting walk-ins.  A person can receive a vaccine in any location listed on the website as long they are in an approved priority group.
