Requesting a Dismissal

You may request dismissal of your citation if you are charged with the following offense(s), if corrected within 20 working days of the date of your citation or the appearance date on the citation.  In most cases a fee up to $20 is due at the time of dismissal.

  • Expired motor vehicle registration
  • Expired driver's license
  • Failure to change name or address on driver's license
  • Failure to display driver's license

Expired Vehicle Registration (MVR)

You may request a dismissal if you meet the following terms:

  • Renew your registration within 20 working days of the date you were cited
  • Provide a legible receipt that identifies the vehicle registered and the payment of the required penalty fee to your county tax office
  • Present the receipt along with a $20 dismissal fee within 20 working days of the date you were cited

Expired Driver's License/Failure to Change Name or Address on Driver's License

You may request a dismissal if you meet the following terms:

  • Renew/correct your license within 20 working days of the date you were cited
  • Present the license renewal receipt along with a $20 dismissal fee within 20 business days of the date you were cited

Driver's License - Fail to Display

You must submit proof within 20 working days that you did have a valid driver's license on the date you were cited. If these conditions are met then the offense can be dismissed with a $10 dismissal fee.

Failure to Maintain Insurance

If you were insured at the time the citation was issued, you may present proof to the court and have your citation dismissed.  

  • A copy of an insurance card showing you are a listed driver and you had coverage at the date and time of the violation and the car is listed as a covered vehicle.  Upon verification of the proof provided the offense may be dismissed at no charge.
  • If you did not have insurance on the date and time of the violation, and you have purchased a valid Texas Liability Insurance Policy, you may be able to request Deferred Disposition to keep this offense from affecting your driving record.  Please contact the Court Clerks' Office at 817-426-9220.
