[ARCHIVED] Junior Fire Academy returns

What does it really take to be a firefighter? Your future fifth grader can discover that this summer when the Burleson Fire Department hosts two free, four-day Junior Fire Academy sessions in 2024, from 8 a.m. - noon. 

Junior Fire Academy is for students who are entering the fifth grade in the fall of 2024. Each academy is limited to 12 students. 

This is the ninth year that the Junior Fire Academy is being offered. There are two sessions to pick from and applications must be returned by May 29 at 5 p.m. 

2024 dates:

  • June 3-6, - 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. 
  • June 17-20 - 8 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Participants receive their own bunker gear, tour the fire stations, and learn about disaster safety, extrication, fire safety, fire hydrants, fire hoses and ladders. The search and rescue training involves a maze (simulated dark conditions) in the training tower at Fire Station #2.
