Public Safety Facilities

Burleson voters approved Proposition B for $52,360,000 during the May 7 special bond election. Proposition B for public safety facilities and improvements and construction passed with 903 votes for and 878 votes against. 

Police Headquarters Expansion

Background

  • In 2009, a study of facility needs for the Burleson PoliceBurleson PD aerial rendering  Department (BPD) was conducted. The study recommended 32,000 square feet.
  • In November 2015, BPD moved into the remodeled facility at 1161 SW Wilshire Blvd. The total square footage of the new facility is 24,000 feet, 8,000 square feet less than recommended six years prior.
  • In November 2021, a feasibility study on the space needs of BPD with a fifteen-year projection was completed. The assessment concluded that BPD would need space in a range from 53,000 to 69,000 square feet. 
  • The Special Citizens Advisory Bond Committee considered police department needs and options for expansion. 
  • The committee unanimously recommended the police headquarters expansion on the 2022 Bond Election ballot.

Bond Project

The proposed facility expansion consists of:Burleson PD entry rendering

  • Expanding the current facility from 24,000 square feet to 62,500 square feet.
  • Remodeling the existing facility to repurpose existing space for officers and staff.
  • An 8,000 square foot training center. 
  • A 3,000 square foot public safety dispatch communications center.
  • A 4,500 square foot support building to house evidence and equipment.
  • Repurposing and adding parking spaces inside the perimeter fence for officer security.

Fire Station 4 Construction

  • The city of Burleson currently has three fire stations and none are located on the city's western border.
  • The construction of Fire Station 4 would provide fire and emergency medical services to the western portion of the city in a manner that meets safety and response criteria for the citizens and firefighters based on National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Texas Commission on Fire Protection best practice standards.
  • In 2021, a feasibility study was conducted to review fire station needs.
  • The Special Citizens Advisory Bond Committee considered fire department needs and options for a new station. 
  • The committee unanimously recommended the proposed fire station on the 2022 Bond Election ballot.

Bond Project

Proposed Fire Station 4 consists of:

  • Construction of a 18,944 square foot, four-bay fire station on the western portion of Burleson.
  • Living quarters for 11 fire personnel.
  • Storm Shelter.
  • Training room.
  • Community engagement space.
  • An office for Burleson Police Department.
