Become a Public Safety Communication Specialist

Exciting & Rewarding Position

The Burleson Police Department offers public safety communication specialists an exciting and rewarding public service position with excellent benefits and a retirement plan. This position receives emergency and nonemergency service calls and transmits messages via various communication systems consisting of 911 emergency lines, TDD, radio, and data terminals which operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Type 35 wpm
  • No felony convictions
  • Normal hearing, vision correctable to 20/20 and have normal color vision
  • Must be willing to work varied shifts, holidays, nights and weekends and subject to mandatory overtime on occasion
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior Public Safety dispatching experience
  • Bilingual skills strongly desired
  • College degree
  • Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required skills and abilities is qualifying
Minimum Qualifications
Public Safety Communications Specialists must have the skill and ability to:
  • Interpret rules, regulations, policies and procedures
  • Prepare clear, concise and understandable written documents and make sound decisions using all available information
  • Coordinate multiple events and emergency responses with the ability to accomplish tasks in a controlled and competent manner while working under stress
  • Perform multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Read, write, spell, and speak in a clear and concise manner
  • Make sound decisions using all available information
  • Read and interpret written instructions, city and county maps
  • Sit for long periods of time
  • Detail oriented and basic math and computer skills
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, other agency personnel and the public
  • Effectively operate the public safety computer systems, teletype, radio dispatch consoles, telephones and other associated equipment

  • Annual range: $40,011.73 - $60,017.59
