Special Operations

Areas of Operation

The Burleson Fire Department conducts special operations training in the following areas:

  • Confined Space Rescue
The Burleson Fire Department has fire fighters trained in confined space rescue. Confined space rescue is a technical rescue operation that involves the rescue and recovery of victims trapped in a confined space or in a place only accessible through confined spaces, such as underground vaults, storage silos, storage tanks, or sewers. Confined space rescues can be technically challenging due to the environment in which they occur. Confined spaces are often narrow and constricting, preventing easy access by rescuers.
  • Swift Water Rescue
Swift Water Rescue is a technical rescue that involves the use of specially trained personnel, ropes, and mechanical advantage systems that are often much more robust than those used in rope rescue because fire fighters are up against the added pressure of working in moving water. The main goal is to use or deflect the water’s power to assist in the rescue of the endangered person(s).
  • Urban Search and Rescue
The Burleson Fire Department has fire fighters trained in Urban Search And Rescue (USAR). USAR involves the location, extrication, and initial medical stabilization of victims trapped in confined spaces. Structural collapse is most often the cause of victims being trapped, but victims may also be trapped in transportation accidents, natural disasters, and collapsed trenches.
