Lastovica-Alvey named Employee of the Year

City Updates Posted on December 15, 2025

Help us congratulate the City of Burleson’s 2025 Employee of the Year, Wendy Lastovica-Alvey!

Wendy joined the city in December 2022 and serves as the Youth Services Librarian at the Burleson Public Library. She was nominated for her outstanding leadership, initiative and commitment to supporting local youth through meaningful, hands-on service.

Wendy played a key role in expanding Project Prom, a program that provides formalwear to teens at no cost. She collected and sorted donations, spent hours cleaning and repairing dresses and suits, and transformed a meeting room into a boutique-like space complete with music and décor to create a welcoming shopping experience.

Wendy also saw a need among local youth and quietly created a hygiene resource cart where teens can discreetly take what they need. Her compassion extends beyond her daily duties; she recently stayed after hours with a patron locked out of their vehicle, offering reassurance and safety until help arrived.

Wendy’s empathy, initiative and service-centered approach reflect the highest standards of our organization. She will be honored at the January 5, 2026, City Council meeting. The City of Burleson’s Employee of the Year award recognizes excellence in efficiency, transparency, honesty, innovation and customer service — the core values of the city's ethics statement.
