Burleson City Council recognized the Burleson Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) during the June 2, 2025, city council meeting for receiving the FEMA Region VI Whole Community Preparedness Award. This honor spans five states and celebrates organizations that lead with a “whole community” approach to emergency preparedness.
The recognition coincides with a major milestone, Burleson CERT’s 20th anniversary. Since its formation, the program has grown from a small group of dedicated volunteers into a highly respected and regionally active team. In just the past two years, Burleson CERT volunteers have logged more than 2,400 hours of service, saving the City an estimated $83,000 in service value.
Burleson CERT plays a vital role in local emergency readiness, offering hands-on training in fire safety and emergency medical response, organizing full-scale disaster simulations and partnering with organizations such as the Center for ASD to ensure inclusive emergency planning.
FEMA Region VI formally presented the award to Burleson CERT during the May meeting of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) Executive Board.
