[ARCHIVED] Severe Weather Alert: Prepare Now for June 8 Storms

extreme weather forecasted for June 8

The forecast for Sunday, June 8 includes the potential for damaging winds and severe storms. The storms are expected to approach Burleson anytime from 9 p.m, to 1 a.m. on Monday, June 9. Here are some steps you can take today to stay safe:

Before the Storm:

  • If your trash/recycling day is Monday/Thursday, please wait to put out your trash and recycling until Monday morning.
  • Secure outdoor items such as patio furniture, trash bins, trampolines and grills. High winds can turn these into dangerous projectiles.
  • Trim loose tree branches near your home to reduce the risk of roof or window damage.
  • Charge your devices and portable power banks in case of power outages.
  • Stock up on essentials like bottled water, flashlights, batteries and nonperishable food.
  • Know your safe spot inside your home—preferably an interior room on the lowest floor, away from windows.

During the Storm:

  • Stay indoors. Do not go outside unless absolutely necessary. DO NOT GO OUTSIDE TO LISTEN TO OUTDOOR WARNING SIRENS.
  • Monitor weather updates using a NOAA weather radio, smartphone or local TV station. Don’t rely on outdoor sirens as your only warning.
  • Avoid windows and glass doors.
  • Don’t drive during the storm unless it’s an emergency. Flying debris and low visibility can be life-threatening.

If the Power Goes Out:

After the Storm:

  • Report damage to the roadways or public locations using the 311 system, www.burlesontx.com/311 or by calling 817-426-9600.
  • Watch out for downed power lines, do not touch any downed power lines. Contact 911 to report.
  • Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters.
  • Document property damage with photos for insurance claims.
