The City of Burleson’s marketing and communications team, along with the police department’s community engagement team, earned 10 state awards at the Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers (TAMIO) conference in Fort Worth last week.

The awards recognize outstanding communication by Texas communities in various categories, including website, social media, video production, and publications. Judging is conducted by non-TAMIO members with expertise in communications and municipal government.

Burleson was presented with the following awards:

TAMI AWARD (first place)

  • Planned Social Media Campaign for Poorly Drawn Pets. The campaign paired artists (and aspiring artists) with community members who wanted to get their pet drawn as a fundraiser for the Burleson Animal Shelter.
  • Best Use of Photography for Hounds and Heroes, photography that featured Burleson Animal Shelter adopted pets with public safety representatives.
  • Multimedia-other for the BTX Explore Blog that showcases all there is to do in Burleson.
  • Flyer/Poster for “Love Shouldn’t Hurt” a poster designed to discreetly connect individuals in abusive relationships with help through a QR code.

AWARD OF EXCELLENCE (second place)

  • Excellence for Video: Educational PSA for Save a Life Saturday that featured a heart attack survivor telling her story of how CPR saved her life.
  • Excellence for Video: Marketing PSA for Lego Stop-Motion Police Vehicle that introduced Burleson’ new fleet.
  • Special Publication for the Animal Shelter’s Calendar.
  • Use of Vertical Video for the Animal Shelter’s video marketing.
  • Most Creative with Least Dollars for the Animal Shelter’s Calendar that was self-funded through pet owner’s paying for their pets to be featured in the calendar.

AWARD OF HONOR (third place)

  • Marketing Plan or Campaign for BTX Bob, a stick figure that helps spread public works information to the city.

This year, TAMIO had over 650 award entries across 29 categories. TAMIO is a network of communications professionals dedicated to informing Texas citizens of important issues in municipal government.
