On December 15, 2025 at 5:30 p.m., during the regular meeting of the Burleson City Council, Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock will personally present the city of Burleson with the Transparency Star Award in the area of Public Pensions, recognizing the city’s continued commitment to financial openness and accountability.

This achievement marks Burleson’s third Transparency Star, adding to previously earned stars in Traditional Finances and Debt Obligations. The city has already submitted its application for a fourth Transparency Star, Open Government & Compliance, and is awaiting notification from the Texas Comptroller’s office.

The Transparency Stars program, administered by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, highlights local governments that go above and beyond in making their financial information accessible and easy to understand. To earn a star, an entity must provide clear financial data, narrative summaries, visualizations, downloadable datasets, and other tools that allow taxpayers to easily review how public dollars are managed.

According to the Comptroller’s office, as of 2025 only 12 Texas cities have earned all six Transparency Stars. Burleson hopes to join those ranks in the near future.

“Financial transparency is the bedrock of good local government,” said Burleson City Manager Tommy Ludwig. “We are honored to be recognized again by the Comptroller’s office. Receiving our third star reflects the diligence of our Finance Department and reinforces our commitment to accountability and trust with our residents.”

Residents and media are invited to attend the official presentation during the December 15 City Council meeting at 5:30 p.m.
